Podcast: Insider's Guide to Copenhagen - Adrenaline rushes and exotic food

Photo: Mark Tanggaard

Join Mexican-American chef Rosio Sanchez as she takes radio and television host Esben Bjerre for a stroll through some of her favourite Copenhagen spots and share what makes Copenhagen special to her.

When Rosio Sanchez first came to Copenhagen, it was to work as a pastry chef for Noma; She actually heard about Noma, before she heard about Copenhagen! Now, Copenhagen is home. To her, Copenhagen is a city that "has more or less everything" and feels like a breath of fresh air. The walkable city with cycle paths everywhere keeps you active and as she said, "it's is a special city that changes how you are."

Join Rosio as she shows Esben where she spends her time in Copenhagen and where she brings international friends.

Villette

In the heart of Nørrebro is a building that has been both a high school and a fire station. Today, it's home to Villette, which has utilized the space to its full potential. With its high ceilings and calm decor, Villette can quickly become a place you don't want to leave. Villette uses the same farms that Rosio uses for her restaurants, where only the best of the best is accepted!

Urban Ranger Camp

Urban Ranger Camp is located in an old shipyard building that also hosted The Eurovision Song Contest in 2014. Here, you can climb around 50 meters high, cross bridges, slide, crawl and much more. As Esben said, one of the bridges felt like crossing the bridge in Shrek on the way to save the princess from the dragon. Urban Ranger Camp has been built by French specialists in the field and is the world's highest of its kind. The old B&W shipyard has been converted into this exhilarating playground for everyone 16 and older.

Meat Packing District

Kødbyen - or the Meat Packing District - lies in Vesterbro and is the old butchers central turned into an area with a vibrant nightlife, diverse dining options and cultural events. The once industrial and gritty part of town, has become fashionable and popular with its central location and wide-spanning cultural offerings. The original, industrial vibes still exist alongside partygoers and local hangouts.

V1 Gallery

The V1 Gallery lies in the Meat Packing District, where the old tiles and building help the art tell a story. Maybe you will, just like Esben, visualise the pigs and cows that used to hang from hooks in the ceiling. Perhaps, you are more like Rosio, and will be there for the art. The gallery describes itself as presenting work to get people talking and wants to give a platform to artists who interact with the society they are a part of. The programme changes regularly and is curated with group and solo exhibitions.

Sanchez

At Rosio's own restaurant, Sanchez, Mexican music, warm colours and cheerful staff are what greet you. Rosio wanted quality Mexican food in Copenhagen, and so began Sanchez. With mezcal margeritas, delicious tacos and many 'bites' there is something for everyone. The menu is constantly changing. You can enjoy your food with both tasty cocktails, Mexican craft beers, non-alcoholic aguas frescas and natural wines.
